If you’ve watched Formula 1 over the last few seasons, you’ve witnessed history. On the current grid, Oracle Red Bull Racing has established itself as a total powerhouse. The Milton Keynes-based team has completely changed the definition of domination in competitive motorsport, from breaking the record for consecutive victories to their incredible 2023 campaign in which they won an astounding 21 out of 22 races.
Fans are amazed by Max Verstappen's driving skill and his lightning-fast 2-second pit stops, but the true secret weapon is digital rather than mechanical.
Red Bull's dominance in Formula 1 is driven by an unwavering, data-first partnership with Oracle. The sport is won on the very edge of marginal advantages.
In F1, a split-second strategy mistake can cost you a podium. Red Bull doesn't guess; they simulate. By leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the team runs billions of real-time race simulations.
[Weather Changes] + [Tire Degradation] + [Safety Car Probabilities]
To put this into context, the strategy team under the direction of Principal Strategy Engineer Hannah Schmitz executes 1 million Monte Carlo simulations per second on an average grand prix weekend. An infinite number of "what-ifs" are tested by these models, such as abrupt safety vehicles, unexpected rain, and fluctuating tire degradation rates. Leveraging OCI enables them to conduct up to 200 billion simulations in a single season, the team may securely change their strategy mid-race!
Oracle’s fingerprint is visible across every vertical of the Red Bull Racing ecosystem:
- Engine Development & Cost Cap Compliance: Designing a world-class power unit while staying within F1's strict financial regulations is not an easy feat. While Red Bull utilizes the Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications Suite to streamline their supply chain, optimize production costs, and ensure every single dollar spent maximizes on-track performance to get the best results on race day.
- Bringing Generative AI to the Pit Wall: With Gen AI propspering the team is actively piloting Gen AI tools with Oracle. Now the goal? To instantly summarize thousands of pages of technical regulations and complex telemetry data into bite-sized, actionable insights for engineers under high-pressure race conditions to make changes very quickly.
- The Digital Paddock: This partnership extends straight to the fans. By using Oracle CX (Customer Experience) tech, the team built The Oracle Red Bull Racing Paddock. It’s a next-gen loyalty platform where fans can predict race results, dive into telemetry breakdowns, and earn exclusive rewards, turning a passive viewing audience into an active digital community.
The 2026 Formula 1 season has been so amazing to watch so far, especially making it harder for the teams since the new technical and engine regulations, throwing the entire grid into a frenzy of adaptation. But under the fresh leadership of Team Principal Laurent Mekies, Red Bull is facing the typical issues of an all-new regulatory cycle, including sorting out the chassis balance of the new RB22 and sharpening their brand-new, in-house engine program.
Yet, if history has proven anything, it's that you can never count Red Bull out. The team's culture is rooted in rapid, data-backed evolution. With a vast collection of historical cloud data, one of the sharpest engineering rooms in the paddock, and the relentless driving force of Max Verstappen alongside rising star Isack Hadjar, the team’s infrastructure is looking pretty good already.
Trophies are lifted on Sunday, but they are created in the data center. The present legacy of Oracle Red Bull Racing serves as the ideal model for how a sports team may develop into a state-of-the-art technology business. They have created a winning machine that is adept at navigating the fast lane by fusing the computational power of Oracle Cloud with exceptional human athletic ability.
